Hello, i have a 2001 GMC Sierra Z71 4×4 short bed single cab, 5.3 v8 i lend my brother my truck for awhile and he decided to go mudding. Long story short he sucked up a bunch of water and he broke two connecting rods, so i replaced the motor and the wiring harness in and ground hooked up, and the pcm is not getting power. no clicking when you connect the battery or nothing. the head light light up, it makes that dinging noise when you have the keys in and the door open. but nothing on the tac. no miles, no service engine light. nothing. I have the ground cable from the battery hooked up to the back of the power steering pump, i couldnt remember where it connects but that wouldnt cause it not to turn on right? and i got a ground cable going from the engine to the body. im so frustrated and dont know what to do. can the pcm wipe clean if it sits too long? it sat for a long time. about a year with a dead battery. do i need a new pcm? or do i have the ground hooked up wrong?

Sounds like a ground issue to me… The PCM should not wipe itself clean from sitting…
        Good luck with it…

Pull a ground distribution diagram and look at the ground connections that would effect the pcm. My guess is a body ground is not hooked up. The ground u hooked to the power steering would become an engine ground. Most pcm are grounded to the body

I looked and there are two grounds, g103 and g203 one is back of the engine and the other is LH on the dash

                  Hello 🙂

You have only one ground point to ecu, G103, as you have Picture off.
That goes to pin 1 and 40 on C-1 Blue Connector, and to pin 1 and 40 On C-2 Red Connector.

yes i relised that, i checked the fuse box and the conecter was not conected all the way. its starts now but the rpms go up to 4 or 5 grand, im sure once i put the booster hose back on the intake it will run fine thats guys!

The ground should really go to the block, not the power steering pump. There should also be one that attaches to the body. If these aren’t hooked up correctly, nothing electrical will work right.

Good luck and keep us posted.

yes i know but i have no idea where to put it on the block, im just glad i got it running, and theres no knocking or anything, i just need to install the brake booster hose and hope that stops the vacuum leak, attached is pictures of the process or me replacing the engine.

ok i connected the brake booster hose, and now it does the same, when i started it up it ran really rough, so i shut the engine off, then i started it again and it revved to 4 5 grand with out me on the gas pedal, for about 5 seconds then shut off, but it i start the engine again it will do the same, can a vacuum be that large where it revving it that high? seems hard to believe

hello everyone sorry its been so long sence i posted, so i got a few sensors i broke, and the intake gasket has to be replaced, but the i broke the gears on the pump of the transmission, luckily i didnt damage the pump housing so i am in the process of repairing it, and i decided to have the trans guy at my work tear it apart and see what else it needed, so far i have the pump kit, rear planetary gear set, all i need is a new 2-4 band and its ready to go in. i am so close will be posting more pics

i also routed some of the wiring to the trans, and its suppost to go to the engine bay so i get to correct that while the trans is out, and i get to repair the exhaust leak while the y pipe is out
