      Hello,

I’m creating this post because I need some help adjusting the shift linkage / gear indicator on a 2001 Ford Ranger Extended Cab 2WD 3.0L. The lever is rather loose now, of course after thirteen years and 212,000 miles I would be too. It goes into gear just fine, however, the indicator is off kilter, when in park, it reads as being almost in reverse. This trend continues for all the gears, in drive it appears to be somewhere between 2 and 1. Any help would be appreciated and thank you kindly in advance.

Other than replacing worn parts there is No other way I know of to adjust the shift indicator position unless it’s out the same amount in each position. There is a small cable that’s clipped onto the shift collar on the column. When it’s worn the indicator will be all over that place.
