I know the dreaded 2.7L V6 from chrylser..lol i took it in on a trade for a boat i never used. i was told it just needed a head gasket. its a 2001 lx. My question is this. it wont start at all. when you go to crank it, it cranks way too fast like it has no compression. Is it possible for a blown head gasket to produce these symptoms? i havent done any diagnostics as of yet. i did check the oil and no water in the oil. should i begin to tear into it to get the head gaskets or is there a simple test that i can perform without the car being able to start to prove wether or not the head gasket is the issue. This is more of a guinne pig for me..looking to learn and if i get it running i’ll either give it to a family member or flip it for the jeep engine i need (lol). Just looking for a good place to start. thanks for any advice.

Fist time you need to see if you can see is you have engine error code in your computer.
Second thing to do is a compression test to see which cylinder is bad :
Third thing to do is an engine linking test. You might have (i think) an open valve. That will explain the fast cranking. But I hope is just the valve and not the head engine valve seal.

I wouldn’t just tear it apart. I’d see if I could get it running and then check for a combustion leak. The low compression could be due to a head gasket issue, the compression test video should help you determine that. If you get it running this will show you how to confirm a combustion leak.
