My girlfriend has a 2001 automatic cavalier 2.2 4cyl with 204,xxx that runs rough and stalls while driving. I know it runs rough at idle but Ive never had it stall on me, but she says it does while driving (in town at lower speeds) intermittantly. It seems to run great at speed. It has idled rough for a while but I never worried much because I couldnt check codes and with high miles and we got it pretty cheap, but I cant have it stalling like that while driving.

I finally figured out that the OBDII connector and cigarette lighter pull off the same fuse. So now i can finally read the codes- PO113 Intake Temp Sensor, PO300 Random Missfire and PO442/pd Evap leak. I think im gonna start with with a fuel filter because it hasnt been changed since shes owned it along with a new gas cap (hoping that is the reason for the EVAP code). I’m hoping someone will know of common issues with these engines or what areas to start checking.

The plugs and wires were replaced in feburary ’12. The air filter about 3000 miles ago and it is clean.

Any help would be greatly appricated.

Here are a few video’s that may help –

Does the vehicle start right back up after a stall?

Also does your scan tool show PID data?

You could also tap a screw driver on the IACV to see if you notice a change in idle.

Any signs of carbon build up on the throttle plate in the TB?

        Keep us posted.

The fuel filter has nothing to do with the evap code, that is for a vapor leak or some issue with the controls for that system. I would put that code at the bottom of the list however as it won’t normally cause a performance issue. The intake temp sensor may not be an issue either, those are often run into the air filter housing or the tube that runs from the air filter to the engine and often times this gets unplugged causing that code. The P0300 however is where you should look as this is a general misfire code which could cause rough running and stalling. In addition to the above videos I”m going to add these as well.
