2001 Buick lesabre 3.8L Series II, 56,000 miles. Over the past several months I’ve notice it takes longer to crank to start (2-3 seconds longer). It doesn’t matter if the engine is hot or cold. There are no codes. I also notice a slight miss at cold high idle, but no codes or light. I replaced the plugs and wires and there was no change. The fuel filter looks original so I plan to change that this week. I also haven’t experimented with turning the key to the on position to allow the fuel pump to prime longer before turning the engine over. I’ll try that tomorrow and report back. Once warmed up it runs fine and the feeling of a very small miss goes away. I’m also going to pick up some mass air flow cleaner too this week and give that a try. We bought the car last July. It was a Florida car so it’s super clean with low miles.

ECT sensor is a possibility. I eould start by cleaning it, then if that doesn’t help, ohm it out at room temperature and in boiling water.

Temperature doesn’t have an impact. It can sit over night or be started up after running all day and warmed up. It still has a lengthened crank time. It is getting worse though and has developed a high idle cold engine miss you can feel. Otherwize the car runs great and performs as it should.

Other non-related items I have done since we bought the car was I dropped the transmission pan and did a drain and refill with new filter and gasket. I installed new air filter, running full synthetic oil, and had the coolant back flushed to get rid of Dex-cool. I had to do intake gaskets on one of these engines from Dex-cool a few years back.

I’m also going to check battery when I get home from work today. The miss could be completely unrelated

Great find with only 58K on it.

You’re probably on the right track if by cleaning the MAF sensor and replacing the fuel filter.
I’d would also replace the PCV and air filter if not recently done.
It’s recommended to only use MAF sensor cleaner since many other cleaners leave dirt-attracting residues behind.
The cold engine slight mis is a clue that you can have a too lean condition.

If you have a scan tool, you can get info which can rule things out or point you towards the cause.
Of course, if the check engine light is on, you’ll want to pull those codes.

In case you’re not aware, the UIM/ plenum EGR passage eventually burns through internally from the heat and sucks coolant into the engine.
Consider that DexCool may already have degraded the LIM gaskets.
                Might consider changing these.
