My friend sent his Audi TT (2001) to me for “no door opening signal”. It is common that the door lock sensor/switch push pin is worn so that there is no contact between the lock and the push pin on the switch. Anyway, this is not the problem. I took the door lock off and managed to fix the switch and then put the lock back to the door and tried the sensor by “simulating” the locking and it worked fine, so I shut the door (without putting the door trim panel on) to give a try, it closed and locked and the sensor/switch worked fine, everything worked fine. Then I decided to put the trim back on, but the door won’t open, no matter what: either inside latch or outside, use key or the remote. The locking was good, I can see the locking lever in the door moves, and the latch is moving it just won’t triggering the lock to open the door. So far, I have tried WD-40, bumping, pushing, pull both latch at the same time……

Any idea? I am running out of both time and methods…

      Please help~! Thanks guys.

I’ve had similar issues when I’ve forgotten to hook up the linkage for the door latches when reinstalling them. If that’s the case however it will be difficult to open the door because you already put the door card back on. It might also be that they are out of adjustment. If memory serves those can sometimes be adjustable. If that’s the case perhaps you can get in there with some pliers and pull the cable manually.

          Thanks for your reply!

Actually, the door trim panel has not been put on yet. The door would not open so I don’t even have a chance to put it on… the linkage works fine, because I can clearly see and feel all the mechanism of the lock. The thing is no matter how I operate the lock, everything seemingly good but it just won’t open! By operating the lock, I meant I actually pulled the cable or use a screw driver to pry the latch which the cable connected.

To compare with the working door lock on driver side of the car, when I pull the handel from outside and pull the cable from inside of the passanger side lock (the broken one), I feel either the door is locked (by remote) or the door is not closed – the handel has no resistance-like feeling however the sensor/switch shows the door is closed.

You may have a problem in the actuator or latch assembly itself and that can get tricky. If it’s frozen shut you may have to cut it out to open the door. I’ve spent a LOT of time on stuff like this and it’s never pretty. Hopefully we can get someone here that knows more about Audi’s than myself to help answer your question as I’m at something of a loss without being able to see it for myself.

              Forgot this topic still open.

The door was successfully opened without damaging anything. It was opened by a mechanic, and he said there was a special tool for that and he refuse to review the details of it

I guess the tool is from Audi, not a universal like door opening tool.

The final diagnose was that the lock was defect, the mechanism was no longer working and the door was half-locked while the external and internal handle took it as totally unlocked (which means the handles didn’t work to release the latch).

I’m not familiar enough with Audi’s to say one way or the other but I guess results count. Thanks for keeping us up to date.
