I have an Audi TT 1.8 Turbo 2001. Problem is no communication thru the dlc. I pulled the radio and replaced the fuse, got the radio working and checked the K line, ok. The dlc power and ground ok. Still can’t pull codes with our snap-on scanner. The cluster readout is bad, could it be the cluster causing the comm. problem with the ecm? Is there an Audi guy out there that can help me?

Is your Snap On scanner able to read VAG-COM? VW/Audi use their own soft wear for data, codes and other adjustments you can make through the computer. The cheapest route is a Ross Tech cable plugged into your lap top or I pad or whatever. They come with the soft wear on a CD.

You can also buy a blue tooth thing that plugs into the DLC and then you can scan and read on whatever hand held Blue Toothy device you want provided you can download the soft wear onto it. That’s how I do it.

PS, Even on a 2001 with VAG COM scanner there is a lot of things not related to the engine at all you can change via the computer. Its crazy.

Thank you for that input, will look into that Ross Tech cable. We use both the Snap-On Verus and the Launch X-431. The Verus has the Euro software and reads vehicle Vin specific. The vehicle in question will not let Verus communicate with the ECM. I can communicate with any other Audi. After we plug into the DLC and power up, as soon as you go into engine management, code retrieval or any other data, it will not communicate. I’ve had the same no comm. problems with other makes, most of the time it was radio K line related, but this one is a puzzle. All related fuses are good, I’m thinking one of the modules are bad or the cluster is bad. Comm. problem needs to be fixed first so we can pull codes. I thought maybe some one out there has run into this. Thanks again, any input well appreciated.

Just for the heck of it, check the grounds at the firewall to see if they’re loose. I’ve heard of issues with grounds these on Audi’s and it might come into play with your situation.

            Keep us posted.
