My pops truck runs poorly when regular gas is in her, it idles very rough, barley at all, and pours black smoke out when at idle and driving. it also seems to have half the power that it should have when it has regular gas. the only way to make the truck run better is to run premium in her all the time which is expensive.

-the injectors were replaced but the problem continues
-if anyone has an idea of what the problem is let me know!!!

Sounds like you already know that it is most likely a fuel delivery problem. The best first step would be to get your codes pulled. Most parts stores will do it for free. Off the top of my head I can’t think of anything that would cause that drastic a difference between octanes

is the truck flex fuel? do you have a scanner to read
live data? would like to read the o2 sensor. Also have
          you tried cleaning the MAF?

I believe I would go with MAF

the truck isn’t flex fuel, and I don’t have an obd2 port reader but the check engine light has been on almost since she rolled off lot(common with these trucks) – good suggestion thought I didn’t think about the MAF!!
-the confusing part of this is the big difference between running reg. fuel and premium, like driving two completely different trucks :S

If you could go to an auto part store and have the code
read that would help.its free.also see if they can read
live data. Then post any codes and info. 😉

Before jumping at the MAF sensor, have the code pulled and start from there. Those codes are a good starting point to help you nail down the system or systems that may be causing the problem. Black smoke would indicate a rich condition. If you get the code it may point you in the direction of why that could be.

                  Keep us posted.
