i replaced the tps yesterday and it didn’t solve the problem. i put it into neutral and revved it up a little bit to 1200rpms and after about 1-2 seconds the engine lost power down to under 1000rpm and i didn’t move the pedal. when I’m driving at a constant speed it does that also but i have about a 1-2 inch play before overdrive kicks in.

Yes, everything you say is true. But unless the gas is floored, the tranny keeps the rpms withing a certain range. Not trouble going into OD means the pedal is not floored, so that’s where I’m coming from. Something is telling the ecu to shift into OD when it shouldn’t be. He also mentioned the rpm range, so he is not tramping it, 2000 to 2500 is normal while speeding up, be it 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear, its the same rpm, I can’t see how exhaust would choose 3rd or OD to act up.
Anyway, sorry to the original poster, back on topic, we have all gave opinions of what to check. So check the above and let us know what you find, especially the fuel pressure. Start with the easy things.
Well it’s definitely not the exhaust it took the cat out and it still does it. So whatever it is it’s electrical. It feels like it’s getting too much gas and kind of flooding. So I am assuming that it’s being electronically controlled somehow. But I don’t know for sure that’s why I’m on here haha

It’s strange you only have an evap code with that kind of problem. I would think you’d have a couple of more codes with that type of problem. That said, if you have that level of performance issue and no code to to with it, it’s likely something basic mechanical. It’s at least worth checking. I was on board with the restricted exhaust. It’s a shame you didn’t do the vacuum test as that could have also told you how the engine was running in addition to information on an exhaust restriction. Since we’re looking for basic mechanical things you might check the tube that runs from the engine to the air filter housing. Any air leaks here will cause problems. If you find any, repair them and recheck for the problem. Additional information can be found in the article that College man posted.

i found a hole in the tube a few months ago after the mass air flow sense so i glued it shut and it has been holding.
You might want to take another look at your repair. As I said, if you have any air leaks there it will effect engine performance.
the problem only occurs when it gets past third gear for the first time. usually after its been sitting all night, the next morning it shifts decent even up past 40 mph, it doesn’t lose power but it doesn’t go into fourth gear. but when it shifts past third gear for the first time it loses power again.
