hello i bought a 2000 Pontiac gran am se 2.4 l . it dies dies for a split seconded well driving . i notice when it does this all gauges reset and stereo does to . i have noticed from time to time that the security light next to the rpm gauge comes on . i have read that these cars have faulty anti theft devices as wel as crank angle sensors . as for scanning ecm is not an option for me as i don’t have the cash for a obd2 scanner .

i found the issue it was the air intake sensor. it was going out and caused the car to go into reset mode there for locking up the radio and causing the brakes to not have pressure . i found this info on a web sight for Pontiac grand am owners . i asked the guy why would it make it acted up more with the radio on and he told me. all has to do with accounted air and also told me this because of my ets . The IAT shares a 5V reference signal with the ECTS and the TPS. When there is a problem with the IAT it can mess up the reference and along with it the PCM throttle vs vehicle speed calculations. That in turn can cause the PCM to disable ETS and switch the trans to limp mode to “protect” it.
the hole part cost little over 3 buck plus shipping like a dollar . got the next day to five minutes to swap parts and ship back to recycle that part . since then no more problems . and has been a week or 2 .
