2000 nissan sentra

Hi guys i have a 2000 sentra and when sitting still and turning the steering wheel as i get closer to full lock in either direction left or right i’m getting a loud popping/snapping sound,only thing i see is the left strut has a piece of the spring broken off and trapped inside the other spring,……A broken spring wouldn’t cause this??? 🙁
