First thing would be to check and see if there is any valve and/or piston damage..
Spend the time and do a leak down test on each cylinder.
        If all goes well then..

timing belt is broke so how can you rotate engine to each cylinder for leak down test?

            Going to involve some work.
            1 Remove the upper intake
No need to remove the lower intake

            2 Remove the valve covers
3 Remove the the intake and exhaust rocker arm assemblies

4 Remove all the spark plugs
5 Using a bore scope inspect the tops of the pistons for damage.
6 Leak down test each cylinder.

I understand it is a bit of work, but it doesn’t cost anything to do (if you do it yourself)
If you find the heads and piston undamaged then just go forward and do the timing belt ( suggest you do the tensioner and water pump at that point also)
Of course you can decide just to install a new timing belt …
But that choice is entirely yours to make.
Personally, I was taught that ” there are a 1000 ways to do it wrong and one way to do it right “

In addition to the great info above, the FSM can be found here:

              http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Frontier/2000.0_Frontier-VG/em.pdf

Timing belt stuff starts on page 16.

Good luck, hoping for no valve train damage…

                Nice work nightflyr.

                My question to wayneg209
                How did belt break?
Follow the diagram replace the belt make sure all timing is right.
Remove all spark plugs if you don’t have a compression tester
This is what I use to do cause im old school and I never had any problems .
Place my finger over the whole where spark plug got removed and got someone to crank start.
If the pressure is strong it will push your finger out and make pressure noise you’ll know that cylinder is good.
Do this on all you will find if bent valve you will not have pressure.
just make sure finger is covering the entrance not inside the hole please making
                me worry 🙁
