Hi I drive a 2000 Buick lesabre with series 2 3800. My low pressure AC line is at 70 Psi. I bled the air out and used a 134 a/f recharge with oil uptown 35-40 psi. The AC clutch does not engage and when I checked the pressure it was back around 70 again. I do not have anything to check the high pressure side.any ideas why this is happening?

You can not check a/c system accurately with just low side, you must have a/c gauge r134 showing high and low side. now the number shown on low side (70) is static pressure. from my point of view, your a/c compressor clutch should come on. Look like you have an electrical problem (ranging from a switch to control head)

So is 70 psi a normal reading for low side? How do I go about checking electrical issues? Also, what is a acceptable reading for the high pressure side? Would it be a bad clutch or compressor?

AC work involves way more than the average DIY is capable of and therefore I would recommend that you take it somewhere to have a professional evaluate it. At the very least you need a good manifold gauge set.

I could tell you all the pressures in the system (which vary greatly depending on temperature and humidity) and what they’re suppose to be but if you don’t know how to apply that knowledge correctly you won’t be effective. AC involves more than just the pressure in the system it also involves electronics as well as the mechanical operation of the system, a break down at any point could cause the system not to work and if you don’t understand the system it’s not likely that you’ll be able to just throw parts at it and fix it.

I hope to do more videos on AC in the future to help illustrate this very point as with AC there are no absolutes and it is rarely a simple fix that resolves the problem.
