My wife’s 2000 Jeep GC has a loud whistle @ idle SOMETIMES ?? other time none, Yes it sounds like a vacuum leak but I’ve tried to find it using both carb cleaner spray and butane gas. Last Sunday
it went so far as to start and not want to idle , then start and run fine….Any Good ideas? other than a match? she , ( the truck ) has a lot of miles 158000 🙁 🙁

🙂 Instead of looking for a intake leak, you may have a exhaust leak. You may want to look at your engine with it running, while staying away from the fan and be careful of the hot exhaust, and look for a sign of black soot where the exhaust gases have escaped. I would look around your EGR valve and at the pipe that goes from the EGR to your exhaust as it could leak and be hard to see. You may have loose bolt or bolts on your exhaust manifold that you may want to put a wrench on. I know it may take some time to find as it is such a small hole, but I hope you find it. Good Luck.
Hi Dave, You may have a soft vacuum line. Sometimes they collapse and act like a reed. Look at the pcv hose, I’ve seen those get squishy before.
