This has happened twice, it gets hot out and my car ‘stall’ in the middle of driving. I have to pull over and the car is just acting up so I turn it off. And it doesn’t turn back on. I don’t know if the heat has anything to do with it, or if it was just coincidence. The first time this happened the car wouldn’t start for a week and then was fine. The second time, the car was able to start after 3 days.

When trying to start the car, it does these things; it either tries to start, it starts, or it makes this weird noise. I have videos for these sounds because the noise is fairly unusual. Both times I tried starting the car right after it broke down, this sound was made. The car still occasionally makes the sound when trying to start. The sound happens when I stop cranking the engine and I turn the key back one click. Otherwise it really is trying to start, it partly turns then stops then starts then stops.

I have tried checking the main relay, and I re-soldered the connections, and I can hear the fuel pump priming when I turn the key.
I have no clue what is wrong with the car because it spontaneously works and doesn’t work. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is a link to the video of the car wanting to start

Here is a link to the video of the car making the noise (this time was louder than usual, there is another video of the ‘normal nosie’ on the channel)

Had this happen on 93 accord and it was a bad distributor, its an expensive guess but try a used one if money allows. When it will NOT RUN, you need to 1st know if you have spark, 2nd Will car run with srarting fluid? This will not likely be a replace 1 part and done process. Keep us informed as you troubleshoot.

Are there any possible ways to test this or any other problems on the dizzy? Because previously I opened it up and the rotor seemed fine, i assume there could be other causes of a bad distributor though right? like the coil or ignition module? Would it be better to just skip testing and buy a new dizzy?

I never suggest trying a new part as a guess unless you just have the money and DONT have the ability to troubleshoot. To test for spark, remove a spark plug wire and install a spark tester………can be purchased at any auto parts store.

So yesterday my car decided to start right up. So i concluded there was spark, so I went on to check the primary resistance in the coil of the distributor. The primary resistance was way off. Im currently looking for good replacement coils. Hopefully this is it, but as you said im sure it’s not the only thing.

I also noticed a little bit of red dust inside the black cap of the distributor. It wasn’t caked in it but it was still present. I heard red dust is bad, should I just replace the whole thing then? unless the dust comes from the coil, but I don’ think it does.
