My daughters Integra was running ‘pristine” until boyfriend dinked around with putting in a soundsystem” with a capacitor the size of a mailbox.
She had driven to work about 9 miles, and then on way home it died. restarted but then on and off failure for 2 days…then nothing. Disconnected the “System” but still no start.
Anyway when I crank i get spark for 4 revs. Fuel inject pulse for 1 rev. Had a P1607 code on original puter/
Changed puter and had reprogrammed to original key, so good there. coil is good. replaced interuptor. replaced Cyl position Sensor.
I swapped in a JDM motor 5 years ago- new motor had no crankshaft position sensor so I am piggybacking the signal from the Cyl position sensor to “fool” the puter for emissions sake.
I show no codes on new puter but engine hasnt fired since so not sure anything would “take”
Help ! I dont know what to try next.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Feel free to ask any questions……..Thanks !!!

With the new computer, are you getting fuel and spark still? The Crank and or Cam position sensors should send the signal to allow both of those to happen.

          Yes
what I described is with the new puter in place.
          I’ll get 4 spark pulses
and one fuel injector pulse ( to one cylinder)

FWIW.. a modern fuel injected car will only run the fuel pump around 3 to 5 seconds after initial turn of the key… if the computer does not recognize the car is running by a measurement of certain rpms from the crank or cam position sensor the computer will stop the electrical signal which will stop the flow of fuel as a safety mechanism… i.e. car is in a wreck, you would still not have the fuel pump pumping fuel electrically. …

I would check crank position sensor wiring for an issue, but can’t discount how the computer is dealing with a JDM engine that has been “tricked” about the cam sensor…

            All the best…

I dont have a crankshaft sensor.
Im using the cyl Position ( Cam Position) signal to “satisfy” that parameter.
              Keep the suggestions coming!

              Thanks

So you have spark on all four spark plugs? But only one injector is pulsing? Who reprogrammed the key to the new ecu? The ecu also reads rpms from the distributor.

                  J Body
Spark all 4 cyls. but only 2 to 4 times until ignition key turned completely off and then on again
injector pulse all four cyls….but only once until ignition key turned completely off and then on again.
RPM read from Distributor – Good point !
I have no Tach reading on dash when cranking….never noticed if it used to or not…I know some cars do.
                  Any clues?
                  thx
PS. I had “My Auto Solutions” http://www.masrepair.com in Georgia, reprogram the ECU.
They are supposed to be top notch in the field.

That tach not showing rpms is a big red flag that your ECU does not think the engine is turning enough to turn on spark/fuel.. ECU is probably see in 0 rpms. I would look hard at the wiring from the distributor and trace it back…

                      Thanks, TK!
So my dash tach should so some revs even when first cranking?
Tomorrow I’ll try hooking up my Tach/Dwell meter and see if I get anything.
and then move on to continuity check back to ecu 🙂

You should get some movement on the tach when turning it over..

Wherever your signal that shows the engine rpms comes from is where I would look. Check wiring for anything unusual… Since this is JDM things may be different but I thought the crank position sensor is in the distributor on hondas…

Good luck and keep us posted.

Gotta get this done before it gets nice so I can sit in my boat and fish !!

Like I said the distributor is what controls you tack it would be one wire that controls it very easy to test, but I do know I have had my tack not work in many hondas and the car still run. As for the reprogramming of the ecu that is something I would of personally took to honda to do just how I feel about it nothing wrong with where you went though. Have you ever thought of running a jumper harness and using a obd1 ecu? Maybe a faulty or short in the ignition I know the 2000 Honda Civic Si had a recall for there ignition unit it should be very similarly since honda made most things interchangeable between models.
