The faithful 2000 Honda CRV quit yesterday. I found not to have spark. I googled and came across ETCG videos and diagnosed the ignition. I replaced the rotor and distributor cap. I have spark now but the Honda still does not run.
I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the key, so it should be ok.

      Where do I go next???

I have searched around the ETCG site for some more videos on my Honda subject but did not succeed.
I am a diesel technician and therefore understand the basics on cars quite well.

        Need Spark, fuel, compression, air,

Check fuel pressure at prime and during cranking. Does it start with starter fluid?

        Check compression. etc.

I am nearly certain it has compression, the way it cranks. We connected a diagnostic computer and could see throttle position, ignition timing, manifold pressure. All looked plausible to me.
I cracked the banjo bolt on this canister at the fire wall. Pressurized fuel was shooting out after turning on the ignition.

What about fuel pressure sensor? Is there a check for it?

What about injectors? Is there a test for those?

You think the injectors may not be working ?

Try to find a wiring diagram for that part of the vehicle .

Individual injectors for each cylinder or throttle body injection .

Is there a fuse that provides power to that part of the electrical system ? Is the fuse good ?

Test to see if you are gettin power to the injector / injectors .

            God bless

Injectors Ohm out nicely and I get a blinking light when cranking.
I even went through the trouble to see if the timing belt is still in time. It is.
I took the spark plugs out and can see a little fuel squirting into the cylinders when cranking.
It has good compression by sound and thumb over the spark plug hole.
However I have no gauges to measure compression or fuel pressure.

Sounds good on the injectors , like they are getting power . If you saw fuel in the cylinders , was it all the cylinders ?

                Compression gauge

                Vacuum gauge

Although , you said it ran well after you got it started , I would guess compression is acceptable .

Please refresh my memory . You prime it , it starts , you go on an errand , say the grocery store . Far enough to get it warmed up . You go inside , buy your groceries , does it start OK when you come back out to the car ?

Does it have a temperature sensor to sample the air , going into the throttle body ? Maybe in the rubber hose / duct from the air filter box to the throttle body .

RockAuto.com shows a manifold pressure sensor , Have you checked it ?

One more shot in the dark . Throttle position sensor ?

                Best of luck . 🙂

                God bless

I would go after testing the crankshaft and camshaft sensors to make sure the computer is getting their signals You will need a scope to accurately test these components, but with just a simple test light you can at least check for the power reference and ground to them.

It hasn’t run since the initial break down last Thursday.

I could read the throttle position on the OBDE computer and the manifold pressure. I conclude they are working correctly.

Having electric pulse on all four injectors and spark on all four plugs and no code, I conclude the CPS works fine.

I did see fuel inside all four cylinders.
I tried to take the fuel rail off with all four injectors on to see them squirt. I just saw the first one squirt before the fuel pressure pushed #4 clear off the rail and fuel was gushing out.

I apologize . It seems I am getting your thread mixed up with another .

Think you said you worked on the distributor ? Replaced the cap and rotor ?

Is it possible you got the wires wrong when you replaced the cap ? You said you are getting spark ? I am wondering if you are getting spark to the correct cylinder at the correct time ?

I do not know much about a Honda distributor . Is there anything out of the ordinary .

If you did not rotate the body of the distributor , would not think you changed the timing ?

                      God bless

I verified that again. Rotor goes in only one way. Distributer cap goes on only one way. I verified that the wires are in firing order 1-3-4-2. The length of the wires hardly allow for mixing.

Is the coil part of the distributor cap or a separate component ? Might check the coil .

Also , the ignition control module inside the distributor ?

                            Best of luck ! 🙂

I installed a new coil last night. The Honda is running again. Apparently I had enough spark with the old coil to see it with the plug outside, but not enough for combustion inside the cylinder.
