I have not tried it because I have no idea how to do it. Is there a video somewhere that will at least show me how to do it? But from the looks of it the belt on one side is pretty loose. Im guessing it skipped some teeth.

Yeh, if that’s the case, that could definitely cause your issue. If the timing jumped way off, you could have bent a valve or two…. Let me try and find a vid for you on checking timing from someone I trust bud.

Pfft, perfect, Eric has a vid on a Integra. Timing lights cost like $20 for the cheapy ones, but that should do ya. But honestly, before you do this, you need to manually check your timing marks to see if they set up right, and get the car running to even do this.
Edit: Timing lights have gotten much pricier since I last shopped one. I’m used to the basic ones with a knob on the back to manually adjust your advance. It looks like they are going all digital, and are much more expensive then I remember.
March 10, 2012 at 11:00 am #437611check your timing. if the car can’t be started. The timing marks need to be checked. when the marks line up on the timing gears. the rotor should be
indexed to the #1 on the cap. C8-)March 10, 2012 at 11:00 am #437612http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9_5U9iI_jA
Heres a video of the car..You can hear a loud “pop” coming from the exhaust when I turn it on. I have no idea what’s wrong with it. Just installed new dizzy and still does not want to turn on. HELP!
March 10, 2012 at 11:00 am #437613And I noticed theres a humming noise coming from the air intake..I have no idea what that is about.
March 10, 2012 at 11:00 am #437614Check timing but exhaust could somehow be plugged.
A guy at my job had a muffler explode on him and before that had developed starting issues. It was a Jeep Grand Cherokee…just a thought.

March 11, 2012 at 11:00 am #437619That’s the #1 prob. That the car won’t start so I can check the timing.
March 11, 2012 at 11:00 am #437620And I doubt it’s my muffler..It’s all just straight pipe.
March 11, 2012 at 11:00 am #437621with the timing cover off. rotate the engine via the crank bolt until the timing marks on the sprockets line up.then remove the cap and
see if the rotor lines up with the #1 mark on the cap. when you replaced the distributor check to see that you put the wires on the cap
right.otherwise the firing order will be wrong. C8-)March 11, 2012 at 11:00 am #437622Quoted From college man:

If you have slack on one side, a tensioner could’ve let go, so you need to make sure that you can get all the marks to line up. Those looked like factory cam gears in yer vid, but I want to be sure. They aren’t the adjustable ones are they?

Where are the marks at? Would I need to remove the water pump and belt out of the way? Yes, they are the factory cam gears. And iam not sure..all I saw on the cam gears is that they just have an arrow that says up.
March 11, 2012 at 11:00 am #437624Once you have the crank positioned at top dead center for cylinder one, those cam gear marks should line up to mark on the, uh… I guess it would be the timing cover on that engine. You shouldn’t have to remove the timing cover or the water pump (I don’t think, I’ve not done alot of work on Hondas). If you can’t get the cam marks to line up once you have the crank mark lined up, rotate the crank one time, and then the marks should all line up. If not, you have timing issues. I’ll try and find a video to demo what I’m talking about.

Here’s Eric’s quick video on doing a timing belt. You may have to remove the upper timing cover. I know you have a dual cam. Just trying to give some visual info.
