2000 honda accord EX. Ive had the common P1457 evap code for the last year. I replaced all 3 fuel lines the whole length with prebent finelines about a month ago(there was a slow leak at one of the lines rust). I was certain that would fix the code but it came back about a day later.
So i need some leads on where to go next… Its worth noting that there is an obvious fuel smell at the drivers rear of the car, but its only present maybe an hour or so after driving and isnt there when the car has been sitting. I sniffed around the gas cap and its not coming from there, its coming from the left rear wheel well, so like right in the fuel tank/evap circuits area. The underside is rusty, and theoretically the tank could have a rust hole, but ive never had visual wet gas near the tank/evap area. The filler neck is rusty too but is dry. Is gas vapor lighter than air? Because it seems like every time i get under the car to sniff around i cant smell it anymore.
I guess all i need is some common places to start now that ive allready done the fuel lines. I would think it would have to be something post-tank since the smell is only there after the fuel system has been pressurized…so does that eliminate the tank from the equation? Or does the fuel pump pressurize the tank too?
