My 2000 Accord V6 intruments panel lights do not work. I checked all fuses. Per this video and other forums it is common for the MCU to go bad but I tried this trick in this video with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe in Columbus

OLM (Oil Life Monitors) Are not accurate. Not even remotely so I agree with Fader, Do not follow the idiot light. They do not actively test the oil or anything. The ECU almost “guesses” So it is not accurate.

BMW oil system is actually very good. Following it, you would have no engine wear problems for life of the car. For other systems, it isn’t as fine tuned as the BMW. So for all other cars I would do 5K oil change.

The BMW ATF they call it life time fluid is actually long life fluid that would start breaking down at 70K miles. But your transmission should still good for another 100K miles. (which will put you at around 170K miles). The maximum life of automatic ZF transmission is 200K miles. Even if you drain and fill that transmission every 30K miles, most of them will not last past 200K miles. So BMW is correct, you should not need to change this and when the transmission goes out, replace the transmission. Even if you flush it, you are only buying about 30K miles of service. Also this is a closed system, there is NO dipstick to tell you how much ATF to fill. So you would have to fill it using the transmission (about same as filling manual transmission, you have fill hole and drain hole), which is sensitive to temperature of the transmission and the outside temperature. So the bottom line is that unless you have the proper equipment, you cannot get the correct ATF level and filling the system incorrectly does more harm than good.

If you’re like me and fully intent to make a vehicle last for 30 years, then No.
