Ok so I have a 2000 Grand Prix gt with the series 2 3800 motor.
I’ve only had it for about a month and I was told it had problems but the owner ( a relatives friend) didn’t know what was wrong with it and wanted to scrape it for way to cheap so I decided I would buy it and try and fix it but anyways if I’m on a slight incline at all and I come to a complete stop, when I accelerate not even hard the wheels jerk it seems it dosent really seem like the transmission slips because it dosent rev up a lot before it does it. I’ll go to like 1500rpm from a complete stop and it kindof hesitates then jerks and I now I figured out that if I put it in 1,2,3 gears instead of d it dosent do it at all… I’m really confused and I need help, it also will roll back on some hills that I know other cars don’t on like my drive way but the rpms don’t idle low and it still does that in 1,2,3 gears and d. Sorry that’s a lot but any help would be appreciated and one more thing to add the torque strut mount bushings are worn I replaced the dog bone part but the square bushings above the radiator are bad I believe and I didn’t know if that cause this issue thanks again

Tbrown I hate to discourage you, but it does sound like the tranny to me. The fact that you are able to correct this issue by manually choosing a gear instead of Drive (making it temporarily go away) makes me lean toward the transmission. In other words the tranny seems to be the common denominator here. Alternately, it could be something severely worn or loose in the steering or front suspension. Check your steering components, including the stabilizer bar and A frames that connect to the subframe at each side. Check the front strut assembly on each side and make sure they are tight where bolted onto the vehicle without excessive play… Also check your motor mounts for excessive wear, any loose bolts, etc. These are a couple things to perhaps rule out before looking into the transmission. The dog bone and bushing shouldn’t cause these symptoms. Best of luck…

After tomatofarmer1’s check and you still have problems…

In my opinion…I would go through Eric’s diagnosis for transmission issues. I think it’s very well done which will lead you to vehicle make and model specific issues that maybe someone on this forum can help with.

Like Eric always says “proper diagnosis will always save time and wasted money by not throwing parts at a vehicle that’s not needed.”

Some diagnosis you have to use special tools, but what I have seen with the talent on this site, they have workarounds that will help and work.
