I bought this truck about a month ago. It is a 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0 v6 xlt. It didn’t have a tailpipe. In order for it to pass inspection here in NC I had to put a tailpipe on it. Got the tailpipe on. Drove it about five miles and the CEL came on. I checked the codes they came back as p0171 and p0174 both banks running lean. I did a lot of reading. I changed the spark plugs(driver side second one had some oil on it), new PCV valve and hose, vacuum leak test, cleaned EGR and MAF, changed upper intake gasket, new fuel filter, a new fuel cap. I even changed all three o2 sensors. I am very frustrated!! Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

If your satisfied that no vacumm leaks exist, then you may want to look at the emissions control. If this vehicle has and AIR pump on it it could be feeding extra oxygen into the exhaust which would effect the oxgen sensors. if this is happening, it will cause the oxygen sensors to read lean thus causing the engine to run rich. pay particular attention to any solenoids and valveing associated with the AIR system. If any one of these valves or solenoids are malfunctiong it could be introducing air into the system at the wrong time

If you checked for vacuum leaks and found none.
The I would check fuel pressure and the fp regulator.
          also check the egr

When I changed the fuel filter there was pressure on both end of the filter. It shot fuel everywhere. But I will check fuel pressure. I also cleaned and check the erg valve. I appreciate the feedback.

Could putting on the tailpipe make it throw those codes?

A tail pipe no.but if there are leaks in the exhaust
before the o2 sensors that could cause a lean condition.
                check you exhaust.

Wouldn’t the code come up as exhaust leak. The truck runs good, no hesitation, no stalling, no rough idol.

There are no sensors for an exhaust leak.
