I don’t even know where to begin with this nightmare that I’ve been facing over the last couple weeks. I bought the truck back in March, it had right around 173k (It’s at 177k now) miles on it (if that matters), and it had the fabled P0420 code. Well I wanted to fix it and I wanted to fix it right, but I drove on the code until recently, where I replaced the Cat Converter with a Bosal unit, and new o2 sensors. Well the P0420 is gone so far, but it has been replaced by another stick in my butt known as the P1401. Now I did my research, its an EGR Pressure Feedback high circuit blah blah blah. It was making me think electrical problem, and it was! The sensor and connector had found themselves laying against something hot, and promptly melted together. That seems enough to throw a voltage issue. So I bought a new Motorcraft EGR Pressure Feedback sensor, 2 new hoses for it, I went to a junkyard and found a connector for the sensor since mine was absolutely destroyed. I spliced the new connector in (I had both connectors facing the same way when I was doing this and only did one wire at a time), hooked the sensor up, plugged it in, and there it is. Still looking at me with it’s ugly face. I honestly don’t know what to do now. I am just at a total loss. I just want my truck to run well and have no check engine light. Is that so hard?
Also I think I read somewhere that this particular monster also blocks other codes and readings such as from the oxygen sensors but I don’t know. If it is, then there is a possibility that even if I fix this, that p0420 might still be around the corner, and all of this time, money, and effort was for not. I don’t even know what I would do if that was the case. I don’t want to drive on the truck right now as I don’t want to mess up the brand new cat, am I right for thinking that? I know that the EGR keeps combustion temps cooler, and I would really appreciate not melting this cat.
Any help, advice, tips, tricks, experiences, etc., will all be greatly appreciated.
