A few months ago, I spun out on the highway in our 2000 Mustang and slammed the rear passenger side wheel into a curb. After a month, the same wheel starts squeaking/grinding. When I pull off the tire, I find that the brake pad is missing and the caliper bracket is chipped near the slide pin. I replaced the rotor, caliper bracket, and brake pads. In doing so, I couldn’t get the brake pad to fit with both anti-rattle clips on, so I had to use one, which caused it to squeak constantly. After we pay $90 to have the car “diagnosed” and the clips fixed, it is still squeaking whenever the brakes are applied or while on a curve.

*Long story short*, what may be causing the squeaking? We suspected a bad wheel bearing (and I don’t think dad wants to waste time with the local repair place again; his car) or the shock from hitting the curb so harshly (I was doing about 50 mph when the car lost control) but I can’t see anything that might be wrong with it when I take off the brake rotor, mostly because I’m not sure what I’m looking for. Also, are there any safety concerns with the wheel squeak?

*EDIT* I should’ve been more specific earlier, the squeaking isn’t solid/consistent as the brakes are applied, its more of a repeated squeak that changes based on speed.

I hope the pictures are a before picture? If you
drove the car with the clip missing and then had
the clip replaced. You may have caused pad/rotor damage.
        unless thats a current picture.

Several things come to mind but not a wheel bearing. If you paid money to have the squeal fixed I would return to them and have it re inspected. Could be a low pad warning clip (squealer) or abutment clip that’s not in the correct position.

This is a before picture XD the caliper was grinding right against the rotor so I had to replace the rotor (I also put new pads on at this time, so I don’t think that was an issue). As far as taking it back to the same repair place, they’d just charge us another $40 to even look at the car. I may just pull everything off again and take a closer look.

Wheel bearings don’t tend to cause a ‘squeak’ noise so I believe you can rule that out. The #1 cause of a noise like that is the brake pads themselves. If you didn’t use name brand or OE pads this may be what caused it. Also, it could be the splash shield or debris caught in the brake assembly. More info can be found here.

As far as “name brand” brake pads, what would you recommend? When I initially tried to fix it/replaced the rotor, I used Duralast pads on there before. I will probably end up changing the pads sometime this weekend, hopefully that will help with the noise.
