Hey everyone
I’ve got a 2000 Ford Fiesta which has bought up P0420 in the past by means of the engine light coming on. I have cleared it in the past as i had an air leak, and put it down to the post cat lambda measuring the pirate air. I have since repaired the vacuum leak and have since had the code re-appear three times. It happens every few months or so, but it appeared again today and it only happened a few weeks prior to today.
The three things i have suspected and came to the conclusion of, but i would really appreciate some other opinions!
The catalytic converter itself must be in reasonable shape as it passed it’s exhaust emissions test on it’s MOT (annual road worthyness test) in February.
The vacuum leak which i previously mentioned, and repaired.
The lambda sensor itself – but which one? I have a pre AND a post cat lambda. I can only assume the post cat is the problem, but i might be wrong? I did take it out and clean it, this is what it DID look like (should it? im not sure?)
