I have a 2000 dodge durango 5.9l it will want to stall randomly.. by randomly i mean some days it runs like a champ or even a week and then out of the blue engine makes some popping noises and i have to floor it to keep it running and normaly its fine after that for awhile.. also again randomly it will idle at 500 or below and just stay running again give it some gas it will spudder and be fine… whats going on here??? I changed the temp sensor cleaned the plugs… has new (2 or 3 months) cap, rotor, wires, plugs, air filter, pcv, temp sensor and thermostat… pcv makes lots of noise for some reason also it rattles like crazy… also i just feel like it doesnt have the power it had before.. Help? Thanks

A good place to start your diagnosis would be to test fuel pressure. You should be able to rent/loan a gauge from a parts store. I can’t remember for sure, but I think you’ve got a Schraeder valve right on your fuel rail for easy testing.

tested fuel pressure today and it fludders between like 46-48 to 52-54 (hard to tell) and by fluddering i mean like very violently can hardly see the needle no change to pressure or fluttering with engine revved up i got it to 4-5k before it even moved just alittle like MAYBE 2lbs.. (idk if thats normal) and no i have no cel.. i pulled a P0138 (O2) but i do believe that is because i was looking for exhaust leak and plugged up tail pipe for 3 secs… it was literally idling at 200 tonight but it went down in steps almost.. starts sounding abit weird them drops and drops… begins to smell awful and i rev it up and was fine.. mind you i have to pump the gas i cant just hold it or it will just idle at 5ish and jump around.. Any help? Thanks!! … Also did a leak test and got it to drop to 25ish psi within prolly 20ish mins.. and when i did a second test it ended engine off at almost 60 psi… Spec is 44 to 54 i do believe thats when i did leak test (no isolation from fuel tank to engine just hooked in)

You could have sediment as you suspect, or there could be a fuel pump problem based on your readings. The needle should be fairly steady. Some additional testing can be done with a fuel pressure gauge as well as shown in this video.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Try cutting the strap itself, get the tank out, then revisit dealing with the bolt at the top.

Ok back again. So im pretty sure it was not a fuel pump. Went up and seen a buddy and his snapon and its getting wacky reading from tps, iac, and map sensor.. cleaned iac and changed tps to new.. rechecked readings and they where stable and looked good called it good and left and boom here we go again almost stalls unless i keep it going… where is my issue…? Could it be a computer?? This is killing me… i just need to know where to look… what sensors to clean or look into.. Help 🙁 also it may seem to be bad once hot.. now i havent confirmed that but seems like it.. also maybe alittle on electral load.. i just loaded it up to see and it almost did after i turned it all back off.. cant really make it happen agsin but its info.. thanks
