Hey all. So, I’ve got a 2000 Civic Coupe, with a no start. Cranks like mad, no spark. I’m going to replace the main relay as i can’t hear the fuel pump turn on, but does that have any impact on the spark? We’ve got nothing out of the wire. The coil tests good resistance wise but I guess I know nothing about the ignitor… Is there a crank sensor other than the hall effect one that’s built into the dizzy? What do I do if there isn’t voltage getting to the distributor? We get battery voltage on both sides of the ignition fuses under the hood and in the car…. Please help. Thanks all.

No, the main relay does not cause a “No Spark/No Start” condition.
Read through these troubleshooting pages, paying attention to ETCG’s warning on Hondas and aftermarket ignition parts.

Update! I was able to go around and do some probing with my meter. I’ve got a no fuel, no spark issue. I can hear the main relay click, but no signs of movement from the fuel pump. Replaced both 15A fuses for the FI and ignition coil. On one side, i get battery voltage at one wire to ground but no pump reaction when plugged in. The no spark was found at the shop where I’d taken it before to get the wheel bearing done, as the mech is a buddy. Is there any common grounding between the fuel pump and the ignition. I read Eric’s post and I don’t really believe that the fuel pump is bad.

Okay, so I think I might be onto something but 1 vital piece of information I cannot find… where does the G101 ground hook to? Everyone says “The thermostat housing.” I know that. Where on the ECU does it hook up to?

Have you checked for voltage, and ground at the fuel pump? That would be a decent place to start. The fuel pump circuit is pretty simple, which means pretty easy to troubleshoot. If the problems are related, then simply diagnosing the fuel pump will lead you to correct both problems. If they are unrelated, then at least you will have fuel, and you can move on to diagnosing the spark issue.

G101 is indeed on the thermostat housing. I believe if that ground has failed, your main relay won’t get ground, and won’t work. It is certainly worth checking it though.

If you have no fuel pump or spark. sounds like a ground. If your buddy has a noid light check for injector pulse. If none
then the ecu is not powering up. see if this diagram helps. I’m a little Leary with the engine swap being
the ground problem. If you find that ground things should come back to life.
