[size=5]Hello I am having issues with my pick up. 5.3 motor 1500 silverado
I went to town ( over hour away and when i left town , my pickup was reving up and not going anywhere. slipped out of gear i guess u can say. Well i put in park and tried again I had no reverse and only had some power in low gear But if i got over a certain speed like 15 mph, then it slip again and nothing. so i had to shut truck off and start over. Let me say Longest drive home ever ( 2 1/2 hours) After i get home i go to bed get up next day and try to drive it again to see what it does and i hear kinda like air Noise under truck. and it would hardly do anything ( moving wise) … 3 days later i try it again and WOW i have all gears and not hearing any sound. but i didnt let run to long.
Now in the past since i have owned this truck when it gets warmed up and i stop and take off it will shift hard into gear. but only if i drive it long time like Hour away .

Anyone have any suggestions where to start looking or trying first. year ago changed filter in tranny it was good then.
Thank you for any suggestions….. btw ERIC love your videos i looked at most of them great way for us to learn…..
      🙂 [/size

Do you have the service engine light on? If so get it scanned and let us know the codes. Sounds like the very common torque converter failure. Could be a stripped reaction shell that catches once in a while. I bet you have a P1870 code and the converter is failed. The harsh shift you get after a long drive is the computer ramping up the line pressure to try and save the transmission. Could be in failsafe mode also. Let us know what you find out.

The service light has been on for 8 years and it keeps telling us everytime to rich in fuel. Now the service guy didnt tell me the code. Of course i am afraid to drive it 30 miles to nearest town. it take me 2 hours maybe if it quits again. Someone mentioned to me it could be the tran moduler. But heck i dunno

Transmission rebuild time it sounds like. 4l60e is my guess. Borg warner hi energy clutches and steel. Corvette servo. Sonnax boost valve. May need a new sunshell seeing as reverse is out. Recommend full rebuild. But first check your fluid level. If it has plenty of fluid smell it. Does it smell “burnt”? Yes rebuild time. Make sure the electrical connector is fully seated. But I think it’s probably toast and needs a rebuild. I went through the same thing with my 4l60e and just decided a full built transmission was what a I wanted. Expect around 1600 for parts and labor. Insist on using borg warner clutches and steels if you don’t want to modify anything else. Make sure your transmission guy is a good one otherwise expect the same problem in 6 months. Stay away from junkyard and parts house transmissions. They are garbage. I’ve installed 2 parts house transmissions in a row under warranty for the transmission. I still got paid each time though cause lack of quality when people insist that the 3 year warranty is what they want is not my problem.

It could be an electronic issue. You’d need to pull those codes first to find out. Although given the age of the truck and your description it’s possible it’s an internal mechanical failure. If that’s the case, I’d recommend a reman or salvage unit. With the preference on reman.
