I’ve got a 2000 Chevy Malibu with a 3100 that has a drive ability problem. Vehicle starts and idles fine. I step on the gas 3/4 of the way, no problem. I floor it (wide open throttle) and the engine just bogs down, a complete loss of power pretty much. The tach only reads at about 4000-4200 rpm’s at wide open throttle. When driving and flooring it to pass on the highway I get the same effect as mentioned above. Another issue is when driving occasionally the engine surges and the rpm’s fluctuate a bit, not a lot, but it’s noticeable. Any ideas on where to even start on resolving this or what could be causing these problems?

Check your gas tank on my buddy’s Mazda b4000 someone decided to put sand in his gas tank and he had the same problems, normal idle but when you get on it it boggs because the filter on the sending unit gets clogged. we over complicated everything and ended up listening to another friend who told us it was spark and mass air sensor. sure enough we dropped the tank and found sand.

Is it possible I killed that o2 sensor when I was having problems with the plugs and in injector o-rings before I replaced them. Also I’ve noticed this as of late when I’m driving and put the vehicle in park or stop at a light the lights dim and the RPM’S drop and them come back up to around 2500 RPM’s before falling back down to normal. I’m thinking an alternator or battery related issue possibly with that problem? When I came home from work last night I pulled into the drive way put it into park and it did the above mentioned then just stalled out. Back to the o2 sensor, It’s for bank 1 Sensor 2 that’s downstream after the converter correct? Would that affect fuel mileage? Finally from the data I posted earlier was there any signs of the o2 sensor before the cat being flaky?

If you look at your friends scan tool, look at your pre-cat o2 sensor voltages. They should be fluctuating between 0.1 and 0.9v. If they are not, try to create a vacuum leak and see if the voltage changes.

For your idle issue, it could be many things. Did you fix your TPS code issue (sorry if i missed that part)?. You could try tapping on the IACV with a screw driver and see if the idle will change.

Did you check for vacuum leaks?

If you suspect a battery or alternator issue, make sure all your battery connections are clean and tight as well as checking belt tension.

And no, the post cat 02 sensor is basically there to make sure the cat is working effectively.

Ok so maybe this bit of information will help diagnose these issues a bit. I talked to the person I bought the car from and they said none of these problems were ever present. My friend had put the engine back together after replacing the intake manifold gaskets since I was not around to do it. So basically all these problems arised, the car running like crap, and the poor fuel milage all started after the intake manifold gaskets were replaced. There was also no cel prior the the LIM gaskets being replaced. Maybe it’s coincidence, maybe it’s something related. But I figured that bit of info may help.

Start with looking for vacuum leaks around
                        any gaskets that were done.

And now this started last night….. Any ideas? Should I just throw in the towel and get rid of the car or what?

From the video I posted on the previous page regarding a new engine knock I’ve been told it could be plugged oil passages and not allowing oil to get to the lifters causing the knock. Also was thinking an oil pump. Whats the easiest way to go about trying to correct this? Seafoam? Marvel Mystry oil? Any help would be appreciated. I’d like to fix this befgore I go the route of putting in another engine or getting rid of the car

I would not invest one more dime into that engine as to me it sounds like it’s not long for this world. You can check the oil pressure to verify this.
