2000 Celica gt has issue

      my son got rid of his maxima.. the exhaust decided to fall out. anyway, he got a 2000 celica gt and it runs great, except yesterday he turned it off and an hour later it would start but immediately died, when the key was turned again it wouldn’t even offer to start, when the key was turned off,and on again it would start again and die. the application of ether in short bursts every 2 seconds or so kept it idling perfectly for a full minute then it died slowly as the fuel artificially introduced ran out no codes were triggered until this event so i dont think the codes i got at that time were relevant.
      Additionally, i read some forum posts on my phone and someone posted that their car would restart and stay running after several hours so instead of calling a tow truck we waited about 6 hours and it started and ran fine, no obvious problem then died while driving after about 15 min of driving.
      left it overnight and this morning it started and ran fine.
      Many of the posts i read said they replaced the fuel filter and pump, and i don’t believe either of these are the problem. it seems more like a vaporlock kind of thing like when you put headers on a camaro without sheilding the fuel line. any ideas would help and i dont have the service manual yet so if anyone could tell me where the fuel pressure test port is?

        Usually efi vehicles don’t get vapor lock. Try the fuel filter or disconnect it
        and see if fuel fills a jar.

          any idea where the fuel filter is on this 2000 celica gt i have to wait for the service manual they didnt have it at the parts store

            The fuel filter is integrated with the fuel pump on this car. ..

              I got time to mess with this again today and got the seat out.. i’m wondering if the sheetmetal cover for the fuel pump access just pries off or is there a method?

                i’m thinking also.. does anyone know whether this car requires premium gas, i know that’s not the current issue.
                I took the fuel line off from the rail and cycled the ignition,, I got good fuel pressure for a second then the fuel pump stopped pumping.
                I’m going to check for voltage at the fuel pump when the engine is cycled, I expect to get voltage for about 3 seconds then none.
                while i’m doing that if anyone has any suggestions..

                  the car starts and dies then the fuel pump keeps pressure for about 3 seconds and power to the fuel pump stops.. i tried a jumper wire to force the fuel pump to run at full output and no change except the fuel pump stayed running

                    If the fuel pump was jumped and no start check for injector pulse. you can
                    have all the fuel in the world but if the injectors are not letting fuel in it won’t start.

                      okay.. for the sake of update, I replaced the fuel pump and filter and screen. no joy..
                      I poured over a diagram that explained the situation to me in clear technese, but sadly I didn’t understand it.
                      turned out that one of the coil packs was bad and that causes the problem mentioned.
