Hey people! I just bought a 2000 Acura RL from an auction but never checked the lights because it never even crossed my mind as something I need to check. Anyway I get it home and we find out that the parking light, low beams, high beams and fog lights do not work.
When the light switch is turned on, the side markers and brake lights come on and interior lights dim like they are supposed to but

How about starting with a different mechanic? 3 weeks seems like a long time to find a problem like that. That said I’d be looking for the common part in all of those circuits as headlights and running lights are on 2 different circuits, the common place for those to meet is in the combination switch normally. First your going to need a good wiring diagram but I’d be taking another look at that combinitaion switch and it’s related circuits for starters.
Print this off and find another mechanic that has the tooling, resources and motivation….
CAUTION: Never turn on the combination light switch before fitting the HID bulbs to their bulb sockets and completing the reassembly of the headlight assembly.- Check the No.45 (20 A) or No.46 (20 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box.
Are the fuses OK ?
YES – Go to step 2.NO – Replace the fuse(s) and recheck.- Substitute a known-good HID bulb and recheck.
Does the headlight low beam come on ?
YES – Replace the HID bulb.NO – Go to step 3.- Disconnect the 2P connector from the inverter unit.
- Turn the combination light switch ON .
- Measure voltage between the No.2 terminal of the inverter unit 2P connector and body ground.
Is there battery voltage ?
YES – Go to step 6.NO – Repair open in the wire between the under-hood fuse/relay box and the inverter unit.- Turn the combination light switch OFF .
- Check for continuity between the No. 1 terminal of the inverter unit 2P connector and body ground.
Is there continuity ?
YES – Go to step 8.NO – Repair open in the wire between the inverter unit and body ground. If the wire is OK, check for poor ground at G201 or G301.- Measure resistance between the No. 1 and B terminal and the No.2 and A terminal of the igniter unit.
Is there about 7 – 2 ohms ?
YES – Substitute a known-good inverter, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away replace the original inverter unit.NO – Replace the igniter unit.Quoted From jacobnbr1:

Also if both the parking lights and headlights are out I don’t believe it would be a problem with HID as even if it was it would only effect one side since they are both on separate circuits. I think he’s looking for a common circuit for the running lights and the headlights. Thanks for the post however.
Yall are amazing! So what I did was take it to a different mechanic who fixed it within the same day! He always does a great job but is a little bit on the expensive side. For some reason whoever owned the car before me took off the plastic inner fender covers and the dirt and grime had damaged the wires in the main harness. I should have took it to him from the beginning and took the hit like a man.
