I have some old 2-cycle engine fuel with a 50:1 gas to oil mix, used in lawn trimmer that I need to dispose of. I have heard a number of people say that they pour this into their vehicles without any problem in spring. they suggest that it is so diluted with the car’s fuel that it does no harm. Can you do this? I’d like to hear some expert opinions on this?

In extremely diluted situations, sure, it’d be fine. Every engine is going to burn a little oil. One gallon of 50:1 in a 20 gallon tank would be around 1000:1. The technical answer is that it could potentially contaminate your catalytic converter, though. But I would doubt it. I had a Mazda with leaky supercharger seals that took 50,000 miles of burning a quart of oil every 1,000-2,000 miles to set a catalytic converter OBD code.

I had a 1995 F150 with a 5.0 and 145k on the clock and I swear that truck would burn and run on Kero if I fed it to it.. I’d take the oldest lawnmower gas, 2 stroke fuel and sometimes a small amount of diesel and … down the hatch.. .it’d run and burn that tank up without so much as a shudder….. Man that was such a great truck.. I miss it.. 🙁

But in small quantities with at least more than a half a tank I wouldn’t worry about it. And I actually cut some gas jobs’ tanks with diesel just to clean the induction system out real good. Just older vehicles and small stuff though. We have a 2 cyl Kawasaki Mule side by side at work I feed a gallon of diesel for 4 gal of gas and it burns it right up. lol… and I beat the piss out of it too, but that’s another story.
