It’s quite possible the synchronizor for first is worn out. If all the other gears work fine, I would look towards a worn synchronizer. Also check the linkage. How many miles on the tranny? What vehicle?

idk if this helps but , it always felt like when i put it in some gears , it wouldn’t go all the way in.

my car doesn’t have a tranny dipstick , i have to get under there and unscrew a bolt that’s in the tranny. i put mt-90 last year. around may. didn’t* get a look at it.

Based on what I’m hearing, I’d talk to the rebuilder. It sounds to me like something is amiss or wasn’t rebuilt properly. Did you get a warranty on the rebuild?

I’ve rebuilt manuals and automatics and I can tell you what you are experiencing is abnormal. At first sign of trouble(gears not engaging properly) I woulda hightailed it back to the builder. Perhaps the builder will help you out in goodwill? You never know. In any case the tranny has to come apart.

I’d say too much endplay on a main or countershaft or a worn shift fork.
Too much end play should have been checked and adjusted during the rebuild.
A worn shift fork should have been replaced during the rebuild.
A fork can also wear if you do a lot of driving in city traffic and have a tendency to leave your hand resting on the gearshift lever.

                        ^ This too
Tranny has to come apart regardless.

whoops i do that all the time , i didn’t know that did anything.

also about the person that rebuilt it , i don’t wanna go back because things didn’t end in a good way.

btw how long can i leave it as it is? i’m asking because i keep pouring money into my car and something keeps going wrong.i always thought if the transmission goes bad prematurely , i think i would just get a another car and let the current one die in peace. anyone know how much would it cost to replace the tranny with a used one? how about rebuilding it again?
