Some cars have a little cover near the shifter that you can pull of, and there is a button that will release the shifter without having to press the brake. My Toyota Rav4 has one. But I looked at the free Chilton’s manual site that we have access to thanks to one of our members. That should literally be like a 10 minute job, or 20 if you are a big guy like me that doesn’t fit well under dashboards.

Also, as you can see, the part is cheap. Other than that, I don’t want to recommend ways to get your vehicle out of park, because I don’t want to tell you how to drive around with no brake lights.

Also also, it would benefit everyone if you keep your post on a problem to a single thread. If you make several posts about the same car/problem, it gets hard for those of us that answer several posts a day to keep track of what car/issue you are working on.

I’m sure once you replace that brake light switch you’ll be able to get it out of park, that was a safety feature that was put into cars some years ago to prevent taking the car out of park without your foot on the brake. Use the links I posted on the other thread to help you.

                Do your brake lights work?
