      Hi, i’ve been having a ton of overheating issues with my jeep. ve been trying to fix my 1999 jeep cherokee sport overheating problem. so far ive replaced the thermostat, the upper and lower radiator hoses(after they blew up!), and a local mechanic replaced the radiator, (and the serpentine belt, which i believe is the cause of the water pump now leaking ).i have flushed my coolant system; i drained the old coolant, then spliced in a flushing tee into the heater core inlet hose and cold-water flushed the system for 45 minutes with the engine running.
      the temp stayed low for the water flushing,so i turned the engine off and drained the water. i added a bottle of radiator flush solvent and topped off the radiator with water. but when i started the radiator flush solvent washing the temp shot up to 250 within 2 minutes. i let it cool down for 10 minutes, the temp went down to 220, then i ran the car again for about 15-20 minutes at 220 , then the temp went up again it cooled down from 250 to 220, then i ran it again, but it eventually overheated again,
      over the last few days it hasnt overheated, but i think it might be due to the weather cooling down, i live in wisconsin. i don’t know why this is.and also the heat that i’m wondering about. i’ve followed eric’s heater core flush video, and aside from a few specific procedural questions i think i followed it well, but still no heat. any suggestions what to do next? i thought maybe doing another ‘mystery product(clr)’ soaking and then hooking up a garden hose to to lower heater core hose and trying to to a (garden-hose)pressure flush. any thoughts? thanks!

        overheating can be caused buy the following

        .lack of coolant, no coolant in the system, no cooling

        .improperly bled cooling system, if the cooling system is not bled of air hot spots can uccure…

        .air restriction too the radiator (air not being able too flow too the radiator)commonly abstructions that prevent air from being pulled in buy the fans or preventing air from flowing through the grill and radiator when driving, also a clogged up AC condenser can cause a lack of flow if air cannot pass through the condensor fins then through the radiator fins.

        .fan not pulling air through the radiator, this often happens when the vehicle is at a stand still, the fans dont kick on too pull air through the radiator causing it too over heat at a stand still, also check too make sure you have a shroud around the fan too direct air through the radiator…

        .radiator not decapitating heat correctly do too corrosion build up inside, however you have already replaced the radiator

        .thermostat stuck closed, however you have already replaced the thermostat

        .blown head gasket causing combustion gasses too leak into coolant causing great increases in coolant temperature, this can be tested buy doing the combustion gas leak test on your cooling system

        .water pump not pumping fluid correctly causing a lack of cooling system pressure and flow causing over heating

        .clogged fins on AC condenser, if your AC Condenser is full of dirt and leaves so air cannot pass through, when you turn on your heat a lot of times your AC turns on too, this causes the AC system too want too pump refrigerant through the system, as the refrigerant is trying too be cooled down buy the condenser too be condensed back into a fluid there is no air passing through the condenser, the condenser cant be cooled, it gets very hot, since its right in front of your radiator it gets your radiator hot too… causing a spike in coolant temperatures!

          Based on what you have done and your symptoms, I would say air in the system.

          From my experience with your symptoms you should replace this little fucker and then rebleed your system tell me how you go

            If the water pump is leaking. I would replace it.

              Anytime you open the cooling system for service you need to bleed the air out. Not bleeding the cooling system is the #1 cause of this type of problem. You can get more info here. In fact, I’ve written extensively about this topic in this article.
