Hey guy’s my customers car is a base model Prelude with the M2Y4 standard trans-axle. The transmission is bad and after splitting the case yesterday there is a gear on the main shaft and it companion gear on the counter shaft completely stripped, The cross pin through the spider gears in the differential sheared the locating pin and slid out far enough to rip the fins off the inside of the case and badly scored the differential carrier and caused stress cracks all over the case.

Even with all that damage the rest of the assembly looks to be in very good condition and this customer does not have piles of cash to throw into this car so I have a few questions for anyone that has ever worked with this car.

#1. Is there another transmission that can be swapped with the M2Y4 unit that is in the car now?

#2. Is there a “donor” transmission that has the same differential and gears that I can pull out and swap for the junk ones?

#3. Anyone have these parts laying around that they want to get rid of?

I didn’t bother figuring out exactly which gear set got stripped but if needed I can either post pictures of them or look them up in the service manual and get back to you. Thanks for any info or leads you can throw my way.

Option 4 is you may be able to find the broken parts somewhere and swap them out. Personally I don’t know what transmissions are compatible but perhaps a Honda parts person would which is who I would ask.

        Keep us posted.

Yeah I hate asking the dealer for parts like that though. They always want to sell you every piece of the car as an add on and I personally don’t care to pay 300% more than the part is worth just because it came from the dealer. If I have to call them I will but that is my last resort. Lol

Perhaps this will help. You can pick out your own parts and part numbers.
