Are you sure its not the tire itself…T)

The tires are fairly new and I did inspect them and they appear to be in good condition. I didn’t notice any warps to any of them. I guess I could rotate the tires and see if there is any change in the noise pattern.
October 20, 2011 at 11:00 am #437033Is the sound gets louder when you turn left, then that sounds like the right hub bearing.
When you turn left that puts more weight on the right side of the vehicle.October 21, 2011 at 11:00 am #437034Keep in mind, when you turn it might be your axles. For it to only do it one direction I would look into that.
October 21, 2011 at 11:00 am #437035It could be the right wheel bearing seeing as there is a axial and radial load on that side when you turn left. I would jack up that side of the vehicle again and grab the wheel at 9 and 3 o’clock position and see if there is any ‘play’.
October 21, 2011 at 11:00 am #437036That does sound like a wheel bearing issue and I’ve had a lot of people tell me they check for bad wheel bearings that way. However I would rule out a tire issue first by rotating them to see if the noise changes or goes away, if it does it’s probably a tire problem, quite common on Hondas if you don’t give them good tires. If the tires are good then I would check for a wheel bearing, sounds like yours might be the one on the left.
November 8, 2011 at 11:00 am #437037After jacking up the front side and letting the wheels rotate, I could hear no major noises. I took the car to the local shop and they said the tires were bad. I got them replaced and had an alignment done. That was the problem. All the noises went away.
But there is a new noise that has come about. The car runs fine, but at about 70mph, the car all of a sudden starts making this noise. The best way I can describe the sound is that its similar to the sound of someone blowing through a hollow metal pipe. It’s a dull high pitched sound. After 70mph the sound goes away. And turning the vehicle doesn’t seem to affect it. The sound is loudest at exactly 70mph, but at around 45mph to 50mph if I hit the accelerator, I can hear the same sound, it’s just much much softer.
Any ideas what this could be?
November 9, 2011 at 11:00 am #437038I took the car back to the shop this morning. The noise is only heard at exactly 70mph and the sound does not change if you turn the car one way or the other. If you drive slower or faster than 70mph, the noise goes away. 3 technicians drove and inspected the car and they can’t find anything wrong. They think it may be the transmission, but they are unsure. The car drives good. No vibrations or braking problems. No other noises. All the previous noises I described earlier in the post are gone. This particular noise is new and was not heard before. The only other thing the shop did besides replacing the tires was a wheel alignment. The car drives good and better than before. It doesn’t bother me because I don’t drive 70mph on a consistent basis, but I am stumped and so are the mechanics. The mechanics say it isn’t a safety issue.
What could the problem possibly be? What should I look for? Should I take the car to another shop?
November 9, 2011 at 11:00 am #437039where does the noise sound like its coming from? vents, under the center console, back of the car, near the front?
November 9, 2011 at 11:00 am #437040The noise is coming from the front of the car. I can hear it equally from both sides. The noise is not prominent on one side or the other but it is coming from the front. And it sounds higher pitched and dull, like wind blowing through a hollow metal pipe. In a controlled environment, I am going to jack the car up and see if i can reproduce the sound at 70 mph with the wheels off the ground.
November 9, 2011 at 11:00 am #437041O.k. I jacked the car up. I checked for play at both front wheels using the 9 oclock and 3 oclock method. I don’t believe I felt any play. I rocked the wheels back and forth and I don’t believe I felt anything loose. I jacked the car up and with both front wheels in the air I put the car in drive and accelerated all the way to 70mph. The noise is gone. I do hear some noises with acceleration that are dull, but reaching 70mph, that particular noise is absent. I don’t hear any grinding with the wheels in the air and spinning.
So I am thinking about rotating the tires to see if there may a problem with the new tires. Any other ideas? Thanks for the help thus far.
November 9, 2011 at 11:00 am #437042Try rotating the new tires i guess.

+1 along with making sure the lug nuts are torqued down to the correct specs.
November 10, 2011 at 11:00 am #437044i rotated all the tires and torqued all the lugs to specifications. no luck. still the same noise at exacly 70mph from the front and sounds the same (higher pitched dull noise). so i took the car to the dealer and am awaiting a diagnosis. any other ideas? thanks.
November 10, 2011 at 11:00 am #437045Sounds like wind noise, if you’ve had a windshield replaced it might be coming from there or it could be coming from around the mirrors. You can try taping off the seams around the windshield and taking it for a drive at 70 to see if the noise is still there if it’s not you know where the problem is and you’ll have to replac the windshield and reseal it in order to get rid of it.
