          Hi geerocky,

According to the step-by-step instructions on the Chilton’s LIbrary, the engine does not have to be raised or removed when removing the intake manifold. Here is the info:

          Goto: elibrary.mel.org

Click on the MeL Library icon

Scroll down until you can select ChiltonLibrary.com

          The Login is C4535896486

Enter the year/make/model, and click Select. Afterwards, click on Repair. Select Engine Mechanical. Then select Engine Mechanical Components. Then select Intake Manifold. Then select Removal & Installation. Hopefully the diagrams and step-by-step will help confirm your progress. Good luck and keep us posted.

Glad to help. I always find a diagram with an exploded view to be extremely helpful, especically if I am working on something for the first time. Looking forward to your progress and update. Keep us posted.

You don’t need to remove the engine just go at the 2 in the center from underneath and the 2 on the ends from the sides. It works much better if you remove the bracket on the back of the block that supports the intake just be careful as there may be a couple of electrical connectors still connected under there. I like to use a 1/4″ with a swivel or a small wrench to get to them.

                  BigC,

Got it done (yesterday). I replaced an exhaust valve for cylinder 1. It was a big job for this DIY’er. As you know there are lots of little challenges after getting the intake manifold off, but all were do-able. The Chilton link was invaluable – Thank you! My old civic runs like new again. Love this “Eric the car guy” site too.

Best wishes to you in all your projects…
