1999 ford ranger

      😉 First of all love your utube it has help me many/many times keep it up. I have a 1999 ford ranger 6 cyl auto trans 4×4. After about 3 months the #6 and #4 sparkplug will destroy the porcelain around the tip leaving the tip undamaged and the performance suffers. I have replaced all O2 sendors and the cat as well as the mass air sendor. Have you ever seen this.

        I haven’t seen it, but I’m wondering if the ignition pack could send over charges that could cause damage like this. We’ve all seen weak spark causing issues, but I wonder if too strong of a spark is a thing.

          only thing I can think of is the gap being wrong causing it to burn… or your trim could be to high sorta odd to cuase it but it might… I would also check the compresstion and see if you see anything odd from it.. also check the wires … for burning too… that could be something… I would also add some dielectrig grease to the spark plugs to maybe help provent it from happen again… but Im guessing you had bad spark plugs

            Is the ceramic being broken off, with cracks, sharp edges and such, or is it being eroded away, giving a smooth rounded appearance?

              smooth and completely gone. gone through 6 different plugs don’t think that many could be bad in same cyl. Compression only 10 pounds off of other cycl. going to try a different heat range plug. Thanks for the great and quick response. I’ll find it yet!!!

                Did you ever find out whats causing this? I am having the same problem with my 97 ranger with the 4.0 liter.
