Have been searching for a discussion about this video but haven’t found.
Sorry if I may have overlocked it.I have watched both videos about the power steering rack replacement and I still have an unanswered question.
How does one actually center the steering rack itself when one replaces the rack or simply by accident move the rack to either side. How does one make sure it is totally centered when it is out of the car?I know you counted the threads as a reference, but like you said it yourself, we never know and that is why it needs an alignment.
I’m about to do a similar job and I don’t want my steering wheel to turn further one side than the other because the rack isn’t centered.

You start with a quick ‘eyeball’ when you install it. It’s easier to see after you get the wheels on. You do this before you connect the steering column to the rack. Then at the end of the video you can see where I check the steering wheel alignment as well as the alignment of the front wheels. It’s difficult to get perfect, that’s the reason you need to do an alignment when you’re done.
I just replaced the power steering rack on a 97 Civic DX. The 2 videos were priceless.
I’m having trouble seating the steering column rack and pinion universal joint to the rack. The seating of the steering column is fine but the rack wont budge. Don’t want to strip any threads.
Any advise would be welcomed.
Sometimes you have to fiddle with them a bit for them to go together. Check for small burs on the rack and see if you can get rid of them. You might also try spreading the connection at the U joint a little so that it goes on easier. Lastly, make sure you don’t have the bolt in there or it will never go together. Good luck.
