Hi,
This is regarding a 1999 Honda civic hatchback (45k miles) and its central locking.
My central locking was working. I then purchased an online aftermarket kit to install a button to trigger the central locking. I removed the door card of the driver’s door (The central lock never triggers when unlocking passenger side), and got to the wiring for the central locking. I did not know the wiring or have a wiring diagram with me, so to figure out what wire does what, i triggered random combinations using a paper clip. (Yes I am aware of the stupidity of this and I won’t do something like that again)
After much playing around I found out which 2 wires trigger the opening of the passenger side door. So I was playing with my button opening and closing the passenger door and as I was doing it I realized that the driver side door wasn’t triggering anymore. I undid everything I did and tried to use central locking normally with my key. The passenger door wasn’t being opened or closed anymore (How ever re-attacking this with a paper clip does open the door). Not even a noise that the central lock was working. I checked all fuses and they were all good (I’m fairly certain at least, there was only one fuse for central locking that I found)
So, troubleshooting that I’ve done other than fuses:
When I unplug the battery, and plug it back in, the first time I go to turn my key, I hear the noise of central lock trying to do something. But only the first time that i turn the key after unplugging the battery (weird).Even more weird… If passenger door is locked, and driver door is locked, and I use this first turn to unlock driver door… The noise is heard but passenger door remains locked. I unplug the battery again, plug it back in, try the same thing with both doors open and try to lock driver side door… And then the passenger door DOES in fact close. But again, a second turn of the key does nothing.
Summary:
– Battery unplug and re-plug gives 1 chance to turn the key and make central lock activate
– If i use this 1 chance to open doors, it does nothing
– If i use this 1 chance to close doors, it closes
– Further key turns do nothing (Not even a noise) until battery is unplugged again
– As i can still open and close the passenger door by using a paper clip on the plug inside my drivers side door, i would imagine this means any underlying issue is before this plug.
– The central lock noise i hear comes out of the driver’s side door, not the passenger sideSide note: my driver door lock was REALLY stiff at the time and I had to apply some WD40 later to loosen it up as it felt like I was going to break my key every time I tried to open driver side door, I don’t know if this is relevant.
