First off welcome to the forums!

I would be checking for loose or eroded connections around the battery. Next time the vehicle stalls, it would be a great time to figure out if your missing spark or fuel by using a spark tester and a fuel pressure gauge.

You also may have issues with the wiring somewhere on the vehicle. You could have someone do a wiggle test on the engine bay wiring while your in park and see if it stalls.

12.2v seems very low if the vehicle is running. It should be between 13.5 and 14.5 volts. When the vehicle is not running, voltage should be around 12.6v.

I would also have the battery and alternator tested.

Hope this is a starting point for you.

          Yes 12.2v is low.
WIth the vehicle running it should be 13-14.5v when it’s running like dreamer said.

Checking for codes was a great start and not having any is actually an important clue as it would indicate that at least as far as the computer sees things there isn’t a problem. That said I agree your voltage is low, it should be 12.6v or above on a good battery however if the battery was low I don’t see how that could cause the vehicle to shut off as while the engine is running you should be running off of the alternator as well as the battery so unless there was a complete inturruption in electrical flow this is not likely especially if it started back up. I’m not sure of the circumstances when the incedent occured but I’m wondering if you might be having a problem with your ignition switch, if you were then that could account for it shutting off the way it did and your ability to restart it shortly after. If you don’t find an issue there you then need to starting looking to the basics and do what you can to monitor fuel pressure and perhaps hook a scan tool up to see if you can ‘catch it in the act’ next time to find out what went missing during the shut off condition. Good luck and keep us posted.

What’s up everybody so i finally got to work on my truck. I charge the battery and put in new alternator and checked allot of censer and nothing happened. The truck ran find until tonight i noticed that my battery gage show’s a little bit pass 9 volts the head lights were dim and everything on the dash was also dim. But the engine was still running until i shut it off. I guess the alternator was doing its job if IM right about that. Any thoughts on but this.

With a new alternator and a battery voltage of 9.0 volts I would suspect a bad battery. you should have a load test performed on the battery. make sure all your connections are clean and tight as well.

                  Hi suka01,
I am in agreement with everyone above. Now that you are only reading 9.0 volts, something is definitely not right. With a new alternator replacement, make sure that all the electrical connections on the previous alternator were installed on the new alternator. I have seen were the “hot” connection on the alternator (for the battery positive terminal) has been accidently left off. Thus, the alternator was working, but not charging the battery.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I would have the Alternator load tested.

I would also be looking to make sure your alternator belt is good as well as making sure there is no issues with the alternators field circuit such as excessive resistance and so forth,

You might also consider a connection problem. Here is a video that I did on alternator diagnosis that might help you.

Hey guys thanks for the help. I found the problem and it was the wire connected to the alternator to the battery was pretty bad. Now it runs with out stalling out or losing voltage. But now i got another problem now it runs poorly every time i press the gas pedal it those not response it feel sluggish for a couple of seconds an then it’ll move normal like it has no problem. I think my gas filter might be bad or bad fuel pressure.

You’re welcome. Is there still a problem with the voltage or do you just have a performance issue now?

Just performance issue but what i was going to do is change out the gas filter and do a major tune up to it.
Then do a fuel pressure test to it.

why don’t you just start with the tests instead of changing things out? A fuel volume test is helpful as well.

I think ill do that first then the tune up. The reason why I want to do a tune up is cuz the truck has been seating for a year. Thank you for that info.

In that situation I can’t see how a tune up could hurt anything in fact it might solve the problem but you won’t know till you try. Keep us posted.
