I have a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina 3.1 approaching 200K miles. I’m going to replace the intake manifold gasket soon, so I was thinking about other maintenance items to look at on the car. I bought the car with 140K miles, but the original owner had no maintenance records.

With the high miles on the car, I was thinking about replacing the timing chain set. Does the timing chain set on the 3.1 engine need to be replaced every 100K miles?

Also, I was wondering about the in-tank fuel pump on the car. How long do these fuel pumps usually last?

I’m hoping the car can go 300K miles before a major engine overhaul. Should I look into replacing the timing chain set and fuel pump, or go with the “if it works, don’t fix it” way of thinking? Thanks!

You need to change the timing chain each 300 000 kilometer. So you have 100 000 kilometer to do.
Personally, I will use Lucas injector cleaner to clean this engine and flush the oil in It. Now these day, you really don’t need to flush the engine whit a conditioner. All oil synthetic and ordinary have oil engine cleaner additive that work well. Plus, If you have the time to do it you can clean the oil pan for the engine and transmission. I will change the brake fluid, radiator fluid and power sterning fluid. At the end, I will inspect the rust part on the vehicle and change rust one. If It’s not so rusted, I will paint It whit a rust paint. And wait for stange noise during the drive.

To be honest I’d just repair what’s broken. When you go looking for trouble you often create it. ‘If it aint’ broke, don’t fix it’, is what I often say. There really is no ‘service interval’ for the items you mention. I’d recommend you fix your intake manifold gaskets and move on.
