Thinking about buying this car for 2400 . It has 166k and runs well. The dealer says the car has the following codes:
      Here’s the codes, P****:
      1423, 1421, 0720, 1750, 1749, 1749, 0705, 0731, 0732, 0733, 0735, 0740, 1747, 1747, 1765, 0705, 0753, 0763, 0763
Is it worth the investment? I have to make a decision by tomorrow so any info is helpful. Thanks.

I would run so far away from that, it wouldn’t even be funny.

BMW owners.. the long-term ones.. call the ‘Check Engine Light’ the ‘Insert 2,500.00 dollars here’ light. Whenever something goes wrong, it’s stupid-expensive to fix.

Unless you can fix it all yourself, I’d not bother.

Thanks for the response. I normally do all the work myself but I’m wondering if is it possible to to save it the the codes listed?

Is it an accident waiting to happen never if the car actually runs great? I test drove it for an hour on Saturday and it held up? Could t be something simple t get a lot of codes an it is not really bad enough to affect the cars performance?

personally I would have the battory and laternatior checked out and I would if you deside to get it is to replace the cable harness… now is the OBD startus ready??? when you read the codes… because if the system is still learnign it self it might not popup untill its done or start acting up

now also look at the freeze frame data and see if all the codes look like rpm’s…. does it look like they all happen at once…. did the seller do anything to make it run a little bit good for like a few days before it starts acting up again like add stuff to trans or oil

The dealer did say a lot of the codes were transmission codes,is that still worth fixing it will it be a Money pit

When I test drove it Saturday it was only 2 codes showing now other has surfaced since Saturday .is it worthy the risk or is it a tell tell for a bigger problem lurking around the corner?

if your serouse thinking about it… you can take it to a machanic you trust and have them and see if they will sit with you and show you what data they are getting on there scanner… they ussually have a lot better scanner and can do alot more then you can do.. like bidirectional… so they can send the commans to the motor and have it do things… might be like $80 or so but might help you from buying a junk…. but I think $2400 USD is high for a price

Thanks for your input. What would be a good price with all these codes? Just wondering?

uslly it would be like an hourly rate what ever that it… now they are not really doing a diag but reading the data from the ECU and what its showing you in live… so you can see what the tech thinks about it… did someone try messing with the system and did all these codes happen all at once or over time, look at the freeze fram data… thats what you want to start out with… but I should tell you they will be giving you more of the raw data so you have to understand more of what your looking at… but before see if your scanner can give you freeze fram data and show live data and see what you think… one advantage of there scanners is they can read more codes then your scanner can… like mfg specific codes

I was told by the dealer he bought it at an auction he already have 3500 in it but when he got it to his shop he put it on a scanner and all the codes came up. He wasn’t interested in investing another dollar more into the car so he originally put it up for sale at 3000 but I talked him down to 2400. That is as low as he’s willing to go because he was trying to sell it on his lot for 4K before the codes issue came up.

personally I dont beleave it…. when you do to aution you first get a chance to look at the cars yourself… being a dealer knowing he has scan tools it sean off he wouldnt tke it with him when he thorws down money for it… for him self to loose money or have a chance to loose money because he didnt want to take the time … they uselly have a guy walking around with a jump starter.. ort sometimes you see pro’s brining there own jump starters and scanners and there macanic with them… basiccly they can easyly loose 2k just because they dont want to bother to bring a $80 code reader
