1998 Subaru 2.5 DOHC Timing Belt/Cam Seals

I need to remove timing belt to get to replace cam/crank seals. The drivers side cams are “loaded”. When removing timing belt tensioner do I let the cams unload themselves. What is the proper procedure.

you can let them unload, a long as when ur puting everything back together id take a wrench and turn them to the correct possition before replacing it all. My opinion others will give theirs

Thanks for the quick reply. Letting the drivers side cams unload themselves and turning the top cam clockwise and the bottom cam counter lock wise back to the marks on cams when reinstalling the timing belt was what I thought was correct. Just wanted to make sure I was doing it correctly.

Just watch them as they unload, and make sure you spin them the correct way, you may need a helper, you can hold the cams as they help position the belt

Also look for a pin hole under the cams, because some have a small hole that you can run an allen key through and that will hold then im position
