1998 Ford Ranger XLT 2wd
Going to replace the front brakes. The rotors have the wheel bearings in them which makes the job a little more annoying than just swapping out new rotors. I just want to confirm I understand what’s needed as this is my only vehicle and having to get new parts mid-project would be a pain. I’ve watched some videos (like this one of Eric’s) and I think I’m understanding it.
I need
- new rotors and pads
- new bearings inner and outer
- wheel seal
- dust cap (more as caution in case I mangle old ones)
- wheel bearing grease
Pull brake stuff, remove dust cap then cotter pin and nut. The outer bearing should just come out and remove rotor. For the new stuff I need to pack the bearings, install the inner bearing on new rotor then seal that protects bearing. Slide that on the spindle then the outer bearing then washer and nut then cotter pin and dust cap. The tightness of the castle nut I’m not sure of. Then just reinstall the brakes. Is that all about right?
For the rotors it seems there are two sizes, 11.26in and 10.28in. I think I need the 10.28in based on just looking around on RockAuto, can anyone with knowledge on rangers chime in on this?
Thank you for any comments.
