      Good evening.

For some reason, my spedometer and fuel gauge are not working. The fuel gauge claims i have no fuel in my vehicle, when I obviously do. (Just fueled it up with 40$)

And when I’m driving, the spedometer doesn’t tell me my current speed. It just sits at 0. The lights for my oil, fuel, and everything else are all on for some reason. I’ve made sure to put new oil in the car, and filled it up with gas. But the lights still remain on.

I thought to myself it was a fuse problem – so I had my neighbor check my fuses with a tool she had, and they all were good according to her. Another neighbor I’ve asked, said that it could be the wiring. I have no idea how to open it up, and even check the wiring.

I really don’t intend on spending a lot of money to get it working. Is there any solutions you guys may have? Thank you.

Vehicle is a 1998 Pontiac Grand AM

It’s hard to say for sure what the problem is but since it effects several instruments in the cluster then it’s possible that’s where your problem is. It may be a connection issue so you might want to pull the cluster and check the connections on the back. If those are good then perhaps it’s the cluster itself that is the problem.

Thank you. Could you possibly link me to any tutorials that can help me remove the cluster? I’m not much of a mechanic (As you may have noticed.)

          Thank you. 🙂

Sounds like the symptoms you get (lamp test) when you turn the ignition switch to the start position. You might have an ignition switch problem.

You may even want to look at some wiring diagrams also.

I would even invest in a FSM for your vehicle –
