      Hello,
I have a 1998 honda prelude H22A engine. Not the Si or Sh or any of those fancy models. The issue I am having is a misfire on Cylinder 3. The tricky part is the car drives fine. The check engine light was flashing so I took it to advance auto parts to have the code pulled. It was a misfire cylinder 3. I changed all spark plugs and spark plug wires. A few hours later, the light came back on solid. Took to advance again and it was the same code, misfire cylinder 3. I am at a lost as to what it could be or what next to do. Can someone help?

Not likely the coil as it would effect all cylinders. Please check the compression. If you have a burned exhaust valve it can cause a misfire like that. It’s quite common, especially if the valves weren’t adjusted correctly. Which brings me to that topic. If you’re not familiar with valve adjustments and the engine isn’t noisy, I would leave that alone to avoid causing further problems.

I outline exactly how to deal with these issues here.

Installed new coil pack and this time the check engine light turns on solid, it doesn’t flash. hopefully that means I made progress. I will have the code pulled and keep everyone updated. On a different note, there is an oil leak somewhere below the distributor and v-tech solenoid. I know for sure it isn’t the v-tech or the distributor because the gaskets have been replaced on both and then checked for leaks after. Does anyone know what oil related item would be located underneath there?

I figured out what the oil leak was, it was the camshaft seal cap. I decided to replace it and while I was in there I did the valve adjustments. I used a torque wrench (19lbft for the 12 mm and 8.7lbft for the 10 mm) to replace the cam shaft rack. For some stupid reason I didn’t feel or hear the torque wrench “click” and I over torqued one of the cam shaft rack bolts. It of course broke. It was one of the 12mm bolts. Should I be concerned about it? Is my prelude not going to run well?

If you remove the entire rail you may have access to the top of the broken bolt. I would replace it if you can, but be very careful when reinstalling the cam retainer to make sure it’s correctly positioned. If it’s not, you could damage the engine.

You still haven’t posted any compression test results. You need to rule out mechanical if you’re going to solve the misfire issue.

                1) I am not sure what the Cam retainer is. I am assuming that would be the metal rail going across the top of the cam shaft shown above in my last post?

                2) I completed the adjustment and put everything back together. Bad news, the car won’t start. It won’t even turn over. The power steering belts are turning but the engine is not turning over.

                Please help !?! 🙁

The most likely cause is that you don’t have something reconnected correctly. I recommend checking over your work to make sure everything was reconnected correctly. If everything is good, then proceed as you would with any no start situation. That procedure is covered here.
