      Hello Everyone!!!!

My name is shaun and i have a couple of questions about our 1998 Honda Civic Transmission that i hope someone out there in the world can help us with

We recently bought the car from craigs list for 1500.00, no dents or scratches, cold AC and car ran great. The other day when driving down the road the car suddenly went into a neutral kind of gear and the rpm’s just revved up with no gears slipping or any kind of signs of transmission issues before the incident. If we let the car sit for a few minutes and then turn back on it will drive in all gears including reverse but after 1 minute it will go back into the neutral feeling and just rev up. There is no check engine light or any codes to go off of, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all in advance for any help 🙂

Just a side note: i heard it could possibly be the shift solenoid as i will be applying 12 volts soon to see if i can hear any clicking inside the transmission and will report back with information

You may want to check the trans fluid. Also someone may have used
the wrong fluid other than the Honda OE trans fluid. more in this link.

+1 on the above. I was driving down the road in my 1999 civic lx and gaining speed when all of a sudden my transmission started kicking in and out of gear. It set of a check engine light. I made it home and discovered that my transmission cooling line got loose and was dripping fluid all over the road.

I checked transmission fluid and were A ok on that end, it also still has a nice pink color and theres no fluid leaking out as far as i can see. The weird thing i find is no check engine light

What you can do is attach a scanner and see if there are any previous history of codes.

That car dates from the problem years with Honda transmissions. It could be nothing more than the filter is plugged. The trouble is you can’t change the filter without taking the transmission apart.

I didn’t think the problem transmissions involved the 1996-2000 ciivics. I have a 1999 civic lx. I put more tha 225k miles on it with no transmission problems.ayne I was fortunate.
