So my Civic died yesterday and would not start back. Also the button on the shifter wont move to allow me to shift into any gears. I have checked the stop switch light, main relay, timing belt and now am wondering what to check next. Im thinking to check the fuel pump.

Is this a no crank no start or a crank no start condition?

As explained in the above videos, you’re missing something — spark, fuel, mechanical issues. Do you hear the fuel pump turn on when you first turn the key on? Are you getting spark from a plug when you crank the engine? Does it crank normally? Are you sure you’ve got fuel in the tank? Let us know what you found when you followed the above algorithms shown in the videos.

I had my son put his ear to the back seat to listen for the pump and he told me he didn’t hear it … Ill try the pressure test tomorrow … I also will check the under dash fuse for the fuel pump tomorrow again then will try the spark test.. I did recently change the coil out for a new one maybe 2 or so months ago will post as soon as I get the results

You should find the reason the shifter does not work first. With the key on (in run position) and brake petal depressed, you should be able to move the shifter. Use a code reader to see if you can pull codes from the ECM/PCM.

When you have the key on, but engine off, does the check engine light up for a few seconds and turn off? Manually shift the car into neutral and see if you can start the car that way.

Don’t replace the fuel pump. That should be the very last thing you look to and even then make sure you have power and ground going to the fuel pump connector before you try and replace it. When you say you ‘checked’ the main relay what did you mean by that? Main relays are a common problem on Honda’s and often the cause of a crank no start condition. What happens is that relay does not turn on the fuel pump thus causing the no start.

So it’s been a while since I’ve gotten back here is where I am …

                          1. Replaced Distributor (needed a new one anyway)
                          2. Fuses are all fine
                          3. Belts and other mech issues seem fine

Only thing left I can think of is the fuel pump …

Also does fuel go bad? It’s been a while since I’ve tried to turn it over

check your fuses and relay. access the pump and see if 12v
                                is read.

OK so I replaced the fuel pump and am still not getting any gas coming from the fuel filter area (like your youtube video for testing the pump shows) I can here the pump come on though when I turn the key to the on position… Is it possible it needs to prime the line?

I’m at a total loss at this point

my car does same thing, the shift stick or/ won’t go into gear. The car won’t start at all. The wheel will locked. I have to push it gear hard it place or move the wheel adjuster till it pop & unlock. The problem that caused this a stretched wire in the gear shift. hope this helps.
